Safety Guide: Riding a Scooter Safely on the French Riviera

At Rentascoot, your safety is our top priority. Renting a scooter means you can fully enjoy the stunning scenery of the French Riviera — but always with care and respect for the rules of the road.
Here’s a quick guide to make sure you ride safely and with peace of mind.
🔒 Essential and Recommended Gear
Helmets and gloves are mandatory for both the rider and the passenger.
At Rentascoot, we provide an approved helmet and a pair of gloves free of charge.
Of course, you’re welcome to use your own gear if you prefer.
Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended. Unsuitable footwear (flip-flops, sandals, etc.) can make riding dangerous and may result in a fine.
It’s also wise to wear pants and a jacket — in the event of a fall, these make a big difference in terms of protection.
⚙️ Before You Set Off
Before every ride, take a moment to check:
- That the brakes work properly
- The condition of the tires
- The mirrors and lights
Keep in mind: every Rentascoot scooter is carefully inspected before each rental to ensure your safety and comfort.
🚦 Speed Limits to Obey
- In the city (Nice, Cannes, Antibes, etc.): 30 to 50 km/h
- Expressways: 70 km/h maximum, only for 125cc scooters or above
50cc scooters are limited to 45 km/h. Remember to set your GPS to “avoid highways”, especially if you’re headed to Monaco or Menton.
And of course:
❌ Riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden.
❌ Maximum of two people per scooter.
⚡ Lane Filtering: Stay Alert
Filtering between lanes is tolerated, but requires constant attention.
In the city, it can save you some time in traffic jams, but always keep an eye out for vehicles that may change lanes unexpectedly.
On expressways, turn on your hazard lights and maintain an appropriate speed. Your safety is always the priority.
🕒 Better Late Than Unsafe
Take your time getting to your destination.
It’s always better to arrive a few minutes late than to take unnecessary risks. Your safety is priceless.
🎧 One Last Important Rule
It is strictly forbidden to ride while wearing earphones.
All our scooters are equipped (or can be upon request) with a phone holder to let you use your GPS safely.
Feel free to ask for one when you pick up your scooter.
🚀 In Summary
Follow the rules, wear the right gear, and enjoy the freedom that a scooter rental offers — safely.
The whole Rentascoot team wishes you an amazing ride on the French Riviera 🌴
